There were many ways to spend leisure time in Nanticoke throughout the years. The Broadway Opera House hosted concerts, performances, graduation ceremonies and other events from 1881-1911, even after being converted to an armory in 1901.

The Rex Theater was one of several movie theaters in town; the State Theater and Family Theater were both on Main Street. More information about Nanticoke theaters can be found here.

There was an amusement park, San Souci, located just outside of Nanticoke, on the trolley line, in the township of Hanover. It was also very common for churches and fire halls to sponsor dances.

Music

Over the years, Nanticoke had many types of musical groups from orchestras and choirs, polka bands to pop bands.

Stanky and his Pennsylvania Coalminers is a polka band started in 1959 by John ‘Stanky’ Stankovic who lived in the Hanover section of Nanticoke. In addition to polkas, they also played Czardas and Obereks. John's brother Joe also has a polka band, Joe Stanky & The Cadets.

Some other Nanticoke bands included Jolly Joe and his Bavarians, The Ray Barno Orchestra (also from the Hanonver section) and several groups led by current State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski (including the Eddie Day Groop, Eddie and the Nitetimers and currently Eddie and the Starfires).
